Glowing Nativity Card/Window Ornament

Glowing Nativity Card/Window Ornament

With the release of the new Mini Catalog products (Sept 6, 2023), Stampin’ Up! has debuted “Glow in the Dark” 6x6 paper. Like any glow in the dark product, you must first expose it to the light or sunlight in order for it to glow.   I did that, took it to my closet, and voila! My creativity started to flow for more than card designs.

“This project is my own design” Susan Boback, Card Connoisseur, Independent Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator.  I made this glowing Nativity so that you could either hang the window sheet with Glow in the Dark images in the window, or attach it to the front of a card to use as both card and ornament.

The message of a Nativity out of the glow in the dark paper is that Christ is always with us – daytime or night time.  It is my hope that you will know the depth of Jesus love – day and night.

Supplies used:

O Holy Night Dies and Designer Series Paper

Window sheets or clear, firm cellophane  - 5x7

Card base 5x7 Night of Navy

Inside Layer – use 4 x 6 coordinating Designer Series Paper or white or ivory cardstock

Designer Series Paper 5 x 8 ½” for the layer behind the clear window sheet/Nativity figures

Ribbon – 21”  (or clear thread or linen thread)

Glow in the Dark Paper – 1 – 6x6 piece

Tools:  Emboss & Cut - Die cutting machine, Paper Trimmer, Score tool, Paper Punch, Scissors, Glue dots, Dimensionals, NO Glue is used with the window sheet

---------------------------------------------

Die cut all the pieces of the Nativity with the O Holy Night dies, out of the Glow in the Dark Paper. With glue dots, attach each piece to the 5x7, in vertical placement on the Window Sheet, leaving an approximate 1 ½” space at the top above the roof of the barn piece.

Do not glue any of the pieces.

NOTE: Make sure to get the glue dots only on the paper. If placed in error on window sheet then removed, it will leave a smudge. The window sheet shows spots so handle it carefully.

Use a dimensional to attach the camel and animals to give some depth (optional).

Using a paper punch, punch two holes at ½” from the top and 1 ½” in from each side.

OPTION 1: Make into a Glow in the Dark Window Ornament. Attach a piece of clear thread/fishing line, linen thread or ribbon through the holes to make a window ornament out of this Nativity piece as is. Hang in your window – view the beautiful Nativity images during the day, and view it as a Glow In The Dark Ornament in the evening. OR

OPTION 2: Make into a Card and ornament.

Use a 5x7” piece of Night of Navy for the base.

Choose a scene from the papers, showing stars above the stable roof. Cut this layer of Designer Series Paper, 5 x 8 ½”. Score the Designer Series Paper at 1 ½” from the top, and fold over. You will attach this to the top of the 5x7 piece of Night of Navy base by punching two holes identically placed as the holes in the window sheet.  Mark the holes on the Night of Navy base and DSP, and punch each piece separately. Set aside.

With a 4x6” piece of either coordinating O Holy Night DSP, white or ivory cardstock, stamp or heat emboss your sentiment, then attach it to the center of the 5x7 Night of Navy base.  This is the only piece that is glued on this card/project.

Next, layer the window sheet Nativity on top of the DSP, then on top of the cardstock base. Add coordinating ribbon through all layers and tie behind the card, then tie the ends together at the top so that this card can hang if desired.

Put a similar note in the card:

"This card glows in the dark.  Lift up the top two layers to read the message.   Set it on your shelf to glow in the dark, or untie the ribbon to separate the Nativity window ornament from the card."

I really love how this turned out.  I’ll be stocking up on Glow in the Dark papers.   To order the products used in this Glow in the Dark Nativity or to see more of my projects, visit my website at
