Origami Tulips

"You're on my Mind and in my Heart" shown with my dad's cup.  My dad left this earth, healed through death, to walk with Jesus, on March 31, 2010.  My sisters and I were blessed to have a father who loved our mother, us and the Lord Jesus.   This stamp set is perfect to celebrate Dad's life among us, and his resting in peace.

The card shown is an Easel card design.  To make this card, cut a 4 x 5 1/4" white or ivory cardstock and build your design on that as shown.  The card base is a standard A2 card: 8 1/2" x 5 1/2", score at 4 1/4" and folded in half.  To make the easel, score the front in half, 2 3/4".  The easel is formed by folding in at the 2 3/4" so that it creates a popped up base. You can see it here behind the featured front.   To attach your design layer, make sure to put adhesive ONLY on the lower half of the cardstock back. When your card is closed it will lay flat, and when opened it will stand like this.  The other piece that's necessary to make it stand up is the white layer in front of the easel, which acts as a "stopper" so that the card stands behind it.  This piece measures 2 1/2" x 5 1/4".

This Origami fold for making paper tulips couldn't be easier.

You can choose any size square, so practice on a larger piece to begin with, about 4". The size used on this card is 2 1/2" square as shown below.

The first step is to fold your square in half point to point, making a triangle.

Next, find the half way point on the folded edge, then fold the right half up from that point.

Now fold the left side up from that center point, as shown below.

That's it!  That's all there is to making a tulip.

To glue it on to your project, put the glue on the back only of the large center piece.  You will see how gluing only that part down will make the folded angles stand out.

This will add texture to your card design and extra postage due to the thickness of the paper tulip added.

As an Independent Stampin' Up! Demonstrator, I have the opportunity to do my favorite things: create paper projects, purchase beautifully coordinated products at a discount, and share my ideas with others in a class, video chat and by mailing them to bring joy to another.

I've been paper crafting since I was a kid when my grandmother bought me "kit of the month" projects.  If you don't want to start a new hobby or add many supplies to your life, look at these kits: (click here) that Stampin' Up! offers - they're all inclusive, fun and portable!
