Oct 30 is National Candy Corn Day!

Sunday October 30th!  It's  National Candy Corn Day!  Either you love candy corn, mmmmmhhhmmm or you hate them.

In the late 1800s, George Renninger of Wunderle Candy Company created candy                                                   corn.  His sweet treat represented the bright colors of corn kernels. Originally, candy corn                                             was yellow, orange and white. However, it wasn’t until1889 that the Goelitz Candy                                       Company made the candy popular. Later, other candy makers developed a variety                                                      of popular colors and flavors as well.

The original confection was made by hand using corn syrup, sugar, water,                                                marshmallows, fondant, and carnauba wax (a wax made from the leaves of                                                                      a palm tree). However, modern candy makers combine the original ingredients                                                           using machines.

Here’s an easy way to share some candy corn – whether you like it or not! This idea has been CASed (Copied and Shared) from sarahstonecreations.

Cut 3 circles, either with punches or dies. These are 1 ½”, 1” and ½” . Glue them together like shown, circles on top of circles, just like a candy corn is: orange, yellow and white for the top point.

Make sure to glue securely because you’ll cut the circle into eight wedges. Once glue is dry, cut the circle stack in half. I use a guillotine cutter for precise small cuts like these.

At this point you could make the two halves into a design such as this.

Or continue to cut them into eight even wedges/candy corn pieces.  Trim the point off the top. And there’s your candy corns!

Use these fun card ideas to celebrate National Candy Corn Day! or give them with candy corn on October 31st!

Card base of basic black is A2 - that means its an 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" piece of cardstock, scored and folded in half = 5 1/2" x 4 1/4"  card.   Beginners: LEARN these measurements, as you'll use them over and over again.

Layer: most layers are 1/4" smaller that the cardstock it is attached to.  That is, the 1/4" smaller cut gives you a border around the piece.   Beginners: LEARN this concept:  Layers are 1/4" smaller.  When you know this and use this over and over, it also helps you because you'll be familiar with the border size as you glue your layer on.

This Layer is Pumpkin cardstock.  It measures 5 1/4" x 4".   I used an Old World embossing folder to machine emboss or dry emboss half of the piece to give it texture.  NOTE:  don't glue it down on the card base until you add the ribbon.

Ribbon:  Use your favorite.  I used 1/4" black/white gingham ribbon, cut at 7 1/4 or so inches long.  Use the 1 inch on each end to wrap it around the Pumpkin layer, and attach with glue dots on the back.

Black & White Layer is 1 1/2" wide x 5 1/4" high.  Glue it on so that there is a border of Pumpkin cardstock showing, and alongside of the Gingham ribbon, or however you wish the pattern to be.  Also cut a contrasting piece of print black/white/gray paper, 1/2" or so by 4 1/4" to run across the middle.  Stamp a sweet message or birthday or favorite sentiment on basic white cardstock and attach to the top of layers.

Glue on your four wedges of candy corn or all eight.   Stamp a spider or bat or pumpkin - something fun to go along with the theme of fall.

Inside greeting could be "Happy National Candy Corn Day!" which I typed and printed on computer paper, then glued to the inside left of the card.

Put a white layer inside and stamp a spider in the corner.

Even if you don't like candy corn - and many people don't - this is a fun idea instead of Halloween!

Don't forget to include a few sweet candy corns along with the card, and how about some "corn" on the cob popcorn?!

I love theme parties! I found the idea on Pinterest.

Start with fresh popped corn. Put 2 cups or less in a baggie, shape as a tube, and close bag with twist tie. Cut 1 piece of green tissue paper in half,  and add a 3" piece of double sided tape about 4-6" in from left edge.

Stick baggie of popcorn to the tape.

Wrap first from left, then right and contine to wrap around popcorn with top 1/3 showing. Twist excess on bottom tight like a cob stem and tie raffia or ribbon to close.

Here are the Stampin' UP! products I used. Here's to the love of candy corn or not!
