Front Flip Know Your 4: Card #2+ 'Go To' Designs

Beginners and avid paper crafters alike need to have a few designs they can "go to" when they need a quick card.

My focus this month is Know Your 4 - what are your 4 favorite designs that you can make either as a simple design or one is "Stepped Up" bringing the design to a more elaborate card.

This card is called the "Front Flip".    You can use a 6x6 piece of Designer Series Paper (At Stampin' Up! we call this DSP) or printed scrapbook papers, whatever you have.   Or you can cut a 12x12 piece of DSP, providing you look at the direction of the print because you'll need the pattern to be in a landscape direction.

Card Base:  A2 or 5 1/2" x 4 1/4", with the fold along the top

Cut each end.  Measure in from each side, 1 1/4" and cut from the open end (opposite the fold) up to the fold.  See photo above.

Use a bone folder to crease your folds, making the fold lay flat.

Add a layer that is 1 x 4" on each end piece. This is a piece of DSP which could be the print on the reverse side or one of the other prints in the pkg or with similar colors of patterns.

Add a layer that is 3 x 4" to the middle section. On the above photo, you see the pattern continue straight across the layers. However, using the reverse side for the end pieces adds interest.

Glue down both end pieces to the inside of the card base.

The middle section of the front "flips up" and this is your basic card! This photo shows adding a 1 inch section of the DSP to the inside section.

Now lets add more to this design. Here are the directions to the "Stepped-up" Version of this Front Flip card.

Card Base: A2    Fold along the top

Cut side pieces the same width, up to the fold. But DO NOT Glue them to the base.

Add Layers to all three pieces.

Add a 1 x 5 1/2" vellum or window sheet across the bottom, but only glue it to the two end pieces, watching where you glue it as the glued spot will show through.  Try to use a part of the paper pattern as your glue spot.

Add die cuts or punched art to the end pieces for added interest or to enhance the middle design.

When the card is open look to see if the back of any die cut you've added, is showing where you don't want it to. If so, trace it on white or the card base color, then glue it to the back to hide the back side.

This Stepped Up version of the Front Flip card gives you more space to write on the inside. And the receiver can 'open it twice' with the bridge section on the bottom.

Basic design of Front Flip card. Is it one of your "Go To" Designs?

As always I thank you for stopping by to read my post, and mostly I hope the detailed photos will give you inspiration to make one of these designs.

Do you have 3 or 4 card designs you "go to" when you need a card in a hurry?   Be inspired to keep yours close at hand so you'll never have to run to the store for a card.
