This card uses Window Sheets, or clear pieces of plastic, similar to overhead projector sheets. By attaching a small 1/2" by 2" or so piece to your die cut, it creates the illusion of your image floating in the air. This card design is CASed (Copy and Shared) from my Team Leader Karen Titus.
I used the Grove dies for this first design. The window sheet pieces make the deer look to be in the air, but I hoped it would make it look like they were part of the forest.
This is not a hard card to make. Some thought is needed to decide what your floating images will be - butterflies, birds, deer or ? how about tea cups, like you're raising your cups together?!
Instead of scoring and folding your card base in half, as is usual for an A2 card - 5 1/2" x 4 1/4", you CUT it at the half point, so you have two pieces. Looking at the Grove deer card above or the tea cup design, you can see that there are two pieces that come together in the center - that's where the window sheets are attached to the card base.
Let's put together our Floating card. This will be a horizontal card. Use sturdy cardstock for base card, and coordinating printed papers for the layers - there are three - cut them each the same size. One for the front and two for the inside.
CARD BASE: 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" - CUT not scored at the halfway point, 4 1/4" on the 8 1/2" side.
With each card base, SCORE at 3/4" on the 5 1/2" side and FOLD.
Add a layer to each piece. Measure it to be 3 1/4" x 5 1/4". BEFORE YOU CUT: make sure to check if the pattern of your printed paper is directional and cut it accordingly. Choose three coordinating pieces: 1 for the front, and 1 for the reverse of the front, and 1 for the other side. (Photo doesn't show front)
Cut 1 white, 3 x 2" or punch or die cut a similar size label for sentiment front. Keep front simple and put your efforts on the inside of the card. Die cut, punch or stamp an image for the front of the card, such as "Hello Friend" or similar.
Now to add the tea cups. Cut tea cups with dies with your favorite Designer papers. Using one glue dot, attach each Window sheet piece, on the bottom of each of two die cut tea cups, then attach it to the outside of the folded piece.
NOTE: the folded ends of each piece will be glued together with the tea cups attached to the window sheet sandwiched in between.
Choose a sentiment for the inside top half, and for the inside bottom of the card. Use a 3 x 4" piece of white to stamp your sentiment and have place for signature.
Close the card, then open it to make sure your tea cups are not sticking out of the edge of the card. By using glue dots, you can move the tea cups if necessary. When you're satisfied with their placement, use tear & tape or strong glue to adhere the two folded sides to each other with the window sheet/tea cups sandwiched in between. You should see that the two teacups seems to be floating in the air.
